About Us

The Northern New Jersey Chinese American Hwa-Yin Youth Chorale was founded in 1989 with the goal of nurturing, enriching, and broadening the cultural horizons of children through music education. Hwa-Yin is a non-profit, self-funded organization currently under the direction of Shinwen Lin, a distinguished conductor, educator, and vocalist.Our members, whose grades range from second to twelve, compose a very diverse group from all over Northern New Jersey. They rehearse every Sunday afternoon during the school year. Music is a universal language that invokes profound emotions and allows all to communicate their love toward each other. Hwa-Yin represents not only a venue by which to gain music skill and appreciation, but also an opportunity to learn about global musical cultures and make local connections.1989年10月，由一群熱愛音樂的華人父母們於北新澤西州創立了華音青少年合唱團。華音宗旨為培養優秀及熱愛音樂的青年團員，也期望下一代青年子弟能藉著音樂文化的認同和心靈的交流，在音樂藝術上茁壯成長。華音首先在受人敬重的尤美文女士指導下奠定深厚的音樂根基，之後由胡蔡茜利女士及喻笙華博士共同扶植，為華音建立了在北新澤西州的盛名，華音合唱團並被新州星報譽為“北新澤西瑰寶”。 2002年林馨文女士接任第四任指揮暨藝術總監。林指揮以無怨無悔的愛心及耐心為華音盡心盡力，並培養華音團員的成長。華音除了以美妙的中英文歌聲打動人心邁向主流社會，在音樂領域上更上一層樓，每年並有多名華音合唱團團員甄選上新澤西州、美東、全國榮譽合唱團。華音精彩的演出深獲各界好評，除了每年度的盛大公演，平日也積極參與社區和慈善義演，並且經常受邀到各地表演。1992年第一場跨海之旅，遠赴台灣及菲律賓表演。1994年參加中國北京國際合唱節活動。1996年受邀於新澤西芭蕾舞節開幕表演。1997年參加捷克布拉格國際音樂節，同年12月並參與14個合唱團於卡內基廳所表演的“為和平而歌”音樂會。1999年參加英國倫敦國際兒童合唱節表演。2004年受邀佛州迪士尼世界表演，同年並參加奧地利維也納Advent Singing音樂節。2006年及2007年和悅悅小集合唱團分別於紐約林肯中心及新澤西羅格斯大學演出。2013年遠赴台灣與台北市士東國小、蘭雅國中弦樂團舉辦聯合音樂會, 2014年與加州愛之聲合唱團及真善美女聲合唱團舉辦聯合音樂會, 2015年感恩節假期再赴奧地利參加國際音樂。2018年4月參加在紐約市林肯中心所舉辦的Distinguished Concerts Singers International表演。2019年8月遠赴捷克布拉格音樂之都表演。合唱團每周日下午練唱，練習課程包含試唱，聲樂訓練，聽力訓練及音樂欣賞。在多年努力之下，華音合唱團的精彩演出不僅深得各界好評，團員們也藉此提升了音樂表達能力和技巧，同時也培養出團員間濃厚的友誼、責任感及團隊精神。我們期許華音合唱團及團員們除了在歌唱及表演上有所成長，也能將優美的歌聲散播各地，體現音樂無國界的精神。

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide an opportunity for our children to be nurtured and enriched in a musical environment. We want our children to experience diversity through the study of music from the various cultural segments of our society, and to spread peaceful and joyful messages to others with care and warmth. We believe that through the performance training and the presentation of music from all parts of the world to those less fortunate, we are providing a valuable opportunity for our children to build up teamwork, leadership, and understanding of what it means to be a good citizen.

The 35th Hwa-Yin Annual Concert will be held on June 9, 2024 at Drew University in Madison, NJ. The doors will open at 6:30 PM. Shinwen Lin,

林馨文女士

Ms. Lin has a distinguished career in music as a conductor, educator, and soprano. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music from Tunghai University, Taiwan, and her Masters in Music from Oklahoma City University. Ms. Lin participated in leading roles in numerous operas in Oklahoma City.As the artistic director and conductor of Hwa-Yin Youth Chorale since 2002, Ms. Lin has led the choir in music festivals nationally and internationally, including in Vienna, Austria, Disney World, Florida, and Busch Gardens, Virginia, and collaborated with Yue Yue Ensemble on several occasions at Lincoln Center and Rutgers University’s Nicholas Music Center. In 2013, Ms. Lin and Hwa-Yin Youth Chorale partnered with Shi-Dong Elementary School and the American Allegro Fine Arts Association for a joint concert at Soochow University Concert Hall, Taiwan. In 2014, Ms. Chung organized a joint concert with Voice of Love Chorus from Los Angeles and New Jersey Women’s Chamber Choir. In the same year, Ms. Chung founded the Hwa-Yin Youth Chorale Scholarship. In 2015, Ms. Lin led the choir to Vienna for the International Advent Sing Festival. In 2018, she led the choir at Lincoln Center for the Eric Whitacre International Music Festival.Ms. Lin also founded the Northern New Jersey’s Women's Chamber Choir in 2003, where she currently serves as Music Director. They have performed at the United States’ Government Veteran Affairs Hospital in Lyons, NJ, for Asian Heritage Month and regularly hold concerts at local nursing homes.Additionally, Ms. Lin is the President of the American Allegro Fine Arts Association and on the Board of Directors for The National League of Performing Arts, Inc. Ms. Lin maintains an active private piano and voice studio in northern New Jersey, where she serves as a music clinician and adjudicator. Her piano students have won prizes in state competitions and performed at acclaimed venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Merkin Hall. Her voice students have auditioned successfully for the American Choral Directors Association’s All-National Honor Choir, All-Eastern Honor Choir, and New Jersey Junior High and Elementary Honor Choir as well as for the New Jersey Music Educators Association’s New Jersey All-Eastern, All-State, and Regional Honor Choir. In 2014, she performed at her solo voice recital at Caldwell College’s Alumni Theater. She is the recipient of the American Allegro Fine Arts Association Distinguished Pedagogy Award for 10 years of student participation for the Young Artist Music Competition at Carnegie Hall, the Genia Robinor Pedagogy Award of Teaching Excellence, and the Laura Conover Pedagogy Award for Outstanding Teaching from the Cecilian Music Club. In in 2015, she was selected as the recipient of the New Jersey Chinese –American Chamber of Commerce’s Cultural Ambassador Award.身為一個指揮家，教育家，女高音歌唱家，林女士在音樂界締造了傑出的職業生涯。從小學鋼琴,聲樂,台灣東海大學音樂學士學位,俄克拉荷馬市立大學音樂碩士學位, 林女士領銜主演了許多在俄克拉荷馬市表演的眾多歌劇。 自2002年,擔任新澤西州華音青少年合唱團的藝術總監及指揮，帶領華音青少年合唱團在美國國內和國際上參加許多音樂節活動 .林女士於2003年創辦了新澤西州的真善美女聲合唱團，擔任音樂指導及指揮. 林女士同時擔任美國美亞音樂藝術協會的會長.每年舉辦學生音樂比賽,音樂會及提供音樂教師的音樂講座也擔任全國表演藝術聯盟理事會理事. 並擔任新澤西州小學及初中榮譽合唱團評審. 2014年3月發表獨唱會在新澤西州的Caldwell大學與新澤西音樂家聯合演出, 2015 年榮獲新澤西中美商會頒發文化大使獎. 平時，林女士致力在新澤西州北部，擔任私人鋼琴和聲樂音教學,曾榮獲 Genia Robinor Pedagogy教學卓越獎和Cecilian音樂俱樂部Laura Conover 教育學優秀教學獎的得獎者。她的鋼琴與聲樂學生每年榮獲美國許多比賽的獎項，並在著名音樂廳表演，包括林肯中心，卡內基音樂廳，和梅爾金廳.
